RANCHI: Bihar DGP Jag Bandhu Mahaptra has denied reports published in an English newspaper on Sunday that the state police were investigating the authenticity of a letter which claimed that extremists were planning to eliminate BCCI president Sharad Pawar, Indian skipper Rahul Dravid, wicketkeeper M S Dhoni and three BCCI office-bearers.

The DGP said on Sunday he had not received any information about the recovery of any such letter from Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, as claimed in the newspaper report.

The state police cannot start investigation unless the concerned authorities from Chhattisgarh inform about recovery of such a letter, he added.

Commenting on the content of the letter as reported in the daily, Mahapatra said during his long tenure in the police force, he had never come across any report that cricketers and BCCI officials were threatened by extremists. The report mentioned Sharad Pawar and Rahul Dravid are also in the hitlist. It appears unrealistic because people of their stature are under tight security cover, the DGP added.

The DGP, however, said the state police would provide tight security cover to the Indian wicket keeper during his visits to his native place.
